A Message from the Superintendent It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the official website of the Jersey City Public Schools. I hope that you visit often, and that what you find here deepens your understanding, support, and appreciation of all this great school district has to offer to our students and their families.
I hope, too, that this website will serve as the catalyst for a new partnership between our schools and the community, a partnership that we must develop on behalf of all of our students, and all of our schools.
A true partnership between us, and a successful plan to become and remain the model urban school district in New Jersey, requires the effort and the input of everyone in the community.
This is important because these times are important. They are, indeed, historic times for our district. As we move back to local control, we will increasingly become masters of our own destiny, less and less dependent upon the state for direction and support.
And, at this point, things are moving very quickly. Because of our success on QSAC, and our submission of plans to address any remaining concerns of the State, local control is just around the corner. In April, we expect that control will be returned to the Board in governance and fiscal areas. Going forward, full control will be returned in areas of personnel, operations and instruction once certain remaining state requirements are met.
I invite you again to review the pages of this site – visit our individual school sites, and our departments; meet our Board members and administrators; check the school calendar for important dates, and learn of planned events and activities. Search for vital facts and district information, and enjoy our multimedia photo and video galleries.
Most of all, I invite you to get involved. This is your site, and these are your schools. Help us help your children to succeed. Visit often. Together, we can all play an active, positive role in the most important work of the Jersey City community – the education of our children.
