The ABE/Pre-GED program is for adults who do not have a high school diploma and/or need to refine their skills in reading, writing, mathematics, and problem solving. Adults with fewer than eight years of formal education or with basic reading language or math difficulties benefit most from this level of instruction. The ABE/Pre-GED Program is designed to:
- help adult learners improve literacy skills and develop the workplace readiness skills necessary for employment and self-sufficiency;
- integrate the Equipped for the Future Standards (EFF) adopted by the state.
- support adult learners who are parents to enable them to become full partners in the education and development of their children;
- encourage independent study, and
- allow students to work at their own pace.
The program is supported by a wide range of computer software, print materials, and audio/visual aids that enhance instruction and reinforce skills.
Registration is ongoing from September - June and applicants must provide the following at the time of registration:
- Photo Identification
- Proof of Residency
- Social Security Card
Classes are offered during the day and in the evening.
All classes are offered free of charge and child care is also available free of charge.
