FACILITIES DEPARTMENT

The Facilities Department is responsible for operating and maintaining the district's buildings.

In order to accomplish its mandate to maintain clean, safe orderly buildings the department employs a skilled trades staff that includes carpenters, plumbers, electricians, electronics repairers, plasterers, masons and laborers. Custodians, groundskeepers, and licensed boiler operators are assigned to facilities to do the day to day cleaning and upkeep required in the buildings that serve about 40,000 students and staff and visitors each day.

The Facilities Department also helps plan and oversee a massive School Construction Program. Recently, an Early Childhood Center, Freshman Academy, Elementary School, and Middle School have been opened. Construction on a new middle school in the Heights section of the city has been completed and students moved into the school this fall.
