Vision Statement
| William L. Dickinson High School’s educational philosophy is consistent with the philosophy of the Public Schools of Jersey City and the principle of American democratic ideas. It is our responsibility to help shape the nation’s future by influencing positively the development of those who will be the leaders of the next generation. Students must be encouraged to develop intellectual curiosity, aesthetic sensitivity, and open minds to face challenges with sound judgment.
We endeavor to achieve these goals by meeting the physical, emotional, social, economic, and academic needs of our students through flexibility and individuality of instruction and by providing a safe educational environment conductive to learning. Programs and support services have been implemented, both multicultural and developmental, that address the individual needs of students including those that have special needs, those who are limited English proficient, those who are gifted and talented, those who plan to attend institutions of higher learning, those who wish to pursue business and vocational careers, and those who complete their formal education at the high school.
Since the student body of Dickinson High School is composed of various racial/ethnic groups, we have made and will continue to make changes in the curricula to adapt to student needs. Our aim is to cultivate an appreciation of our American heritage and all the various cultures, and to foster an understanding of those who are contributing their skills, knowledge, talents, and efforts to make our country a greater nation in an ever-changing global community.
We hope to develop within our students a philosophy of life predicated upon self-esteem, self discipline, and self improvement with respect for the environment and a sensitivity for others. The development of these positive attitudes will result in individuals who will be an asset to our school, community, country, and the world. | |
