School Change Award Winner of the Sixth Annual National School of Change Award and Two Best Practices.
Cornelia F. Bradford School, PS 16, is a small, culturally diverse, and educationally sound school. Our school has a warm, wholesome climate that allows children to grow and learn safely because of its unique size and location.
Our Mission is to develop student ability so they may apply themselves to new situations which may occur in the new millennium and gain the knowledge to solve problems for which there may be more than one correct answer.
The school maintains a positive, growing involvement with parents and the community at large in order to strengthen communications between all parties involved. The Concerned Parents Association (CPA) is continually involved in school activities and the community in a positive way. Our CPA focuses on strengthening relationships between the diverse ethnic groups in our community, improving communication with our children and increasing the active involvement of parents in our school.
Expectations for student behavior are clearly stated in the Student Code of Conduct handbook, which is distributed at the beginning of each school year. Students and faculty alike understand that discipline is integral to the learning process.
Student success and achievement is expected and celebrated at PS 16.
In order to assist our students in learning about the outside world, we have implemented many programs during and after school. Some of these programs are: * D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) * Educational Arts Team * Everybody Wins * Extended Day Programs * Joint Activities * Reading Recovery Program * Reading is Fundamental (R.I.F.) * Chess Club * String Instrument Club * Panasonic Kid Witness News Program The following partnerships programs are in operation at PS 16: * Goldman Sachs Co. Community Teamworks * Liberty Science Center * Merrill-Lynch Mentoring Program * Newark Museum * New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) * St. Peter's Prep Tutorial Partnership
We believe that we are headed in a positive direction to increase the standardized test scores. Technology is incorporated in all classes as a tool to enhance the learning process and lead us into the new millennium.
We believe that by following a balanced curriculum, which aligns itself with the New Jersey Core Curriculum Standards, and Cross Content/Workplace Readiness Standards, our students will be able to develop as productive, competent citizens in our rapidly changing society.
