Have you ever visited the Little Red School House on the corner of Claremont Avenue? This is the Gladys Cannon Nunery School. It has been standing for over 100 years. On December 15, 2001 we celebrated our 100th birthday. We occupy two buildings that are a block apart. Even though our children are housed in two separate facilities, we still manage to exude a " small learning community". Although we are part of a large urban district, we still refer to ourselves as the "Little Red School House". Our buildings and trailers house 13 PreK classes, 3 Kindergarten, first grade and third grade classes, and 2 second, fourth, and fifth grade classes. We have Inclusion in the Kindergarten through fifth grades.
Our faculty is made up of teachers, teacher assistants, and aides who continually strive to upgrade their skills and levels of awareness. Our staff has a high level of expectation not only of themselves but also for all students. This is demonstrated by their commitment in fostering the school's mission which is to help each child meet his/her potential and to become contributing members of society.
Our school is a community of sensitive, caring people who constantly reach out to serve others. In that way, we afford growth to our school population and those we touch. Our school serves as a haven of safety and learning for our students. We urge parents and community members to be a part of our success. |
