Cordero Community School
Cordero houses Pre-K to 8th grade and is a Whole School Reform Alternative Design Model. We are a community school dedicated to promoting student achievement. Cordero is designated as a District Community School, addressing the needs of parent and community members through before and after school activities, as well as weekend and summer events. In order to increase student achievement, grades K-5 use Parallel Block Scheduling to reduce the size of reading and math classes and provide reinforcement and enrichment assistance to all children in Higher Order Thinking Learning and Beyond classes (HOT-LAB). Grades 6-8 use a unique “School-Within-In-A-School” approach to Middle Level Education, which encourages experimentation, individual and group learning experiences and alternate assessment techniques. We have a strong special needs component which includes 3 resource rooms, inclusion classes on all grade levels, and a transition class.
