School Vision

We at Public School Number Eight believe in our children's future.  We are committed to one goal; every student shall reach his or her potential.  Our faculty dedicates itself to preparing children for the twenty first century and for today's technology.

We are a Pre-Kindergarten through Fifth grade elementary school in Jersey City.  Our school provides a variety of educational programs to address the needs of our diverse population.

Nearly half of our teachers have advanced degrees and teacher attendance is above state average. Student attendance is consistently in the ninety percent range.

Working towards improving literacy and standardized testing skills (ESPA/GEPA), our extended day program provides additional support for many of our students.  The district has launched a literacy initiative to ensure that every child is proficient in reading by grade three.  In correlation with the Core Curriculum Standards our instructional staff in grades four through five have developed educational plans to address the needs of identified students at risk of failing.  instructional staff Pre-K through Grade Three has placed emphasis on Literary skills in all disciplines by thematic planning.

Our media and science labs help reinforce classroom projects and provide real life applications and hands-on opportunities that lead to academic success.  Each year students from our school have been selected to compete in the Hudson Science County Fair.

Parents' Council at PS#8 continues to serve us as a vital part of our school's community.  Our Parents' Council was instrumental in the implementation of the school uniform policy. Parents' Council also runs many fundraising programs in order to provide our students with various activities.

Behind every child stands the teacher, behind the teacher stands the school and behind the school stands the parent.
