World Math Day
World Math Day is a global academic activity in which students compete against their peers from around the world. Within a 60 minute time frame, studetnts must correctly answer as many mental Math questions as possible. Students strike out after three incorrect answers. There are five levels, with each level becoming more difficult. Students must play 100 games in order to move up to the next level for a total of 500 games.
This year Academy I Middle School participated in its second annual "World Math Day" even over a period of three days from March 2-4, 2010. All AEP and Bridges students participated in this educational activity. For the first time, teachers were also able to participate. Our school score was 175,317, which is approximately 40,000 points more than last year.
Hoops For Heart
The student council from Academy I Middle School hosted a day-long “Hoops For Heart” event to raise awareness for heart disease. A family event was held in the evening to raise money for the American Heart Association.
This community service event was exercised-based. Students were able to enjoy shooting hoops, dribbling a basketball through an obstacle course, hula hooping, and jumping rope. All Academy I students had the opportunity to participate and everyone had a great time. The family event helped raise $196 for the American Heart Association.
Academy I wins prestigious national Science award and $75,000 in grants and scholarships. Congratulations Principal Moriarty, staff, and students of Academy I.
Academy I Middle School students win First Place for Project Presentation in the 2009 New Jersey FIRST LEGO League Championship Tournament.
