Project TRAC
Project TRAC is a program that allows incoming ninth graders to become acclamated to James J. Ferris High School. Students attend 4 hour sessions where they are tutored in Mathematics and Language Arts in preparation for the HSPA and SAT. Students are assigned a mentor counselor and a peer leader. The mentor counselor and peer leader will meet with them twice per week during the school year in order to continue to monitor their progress during their Freshman Year. Under the direction of Mr. Perry Cecchini, Program Supervisor and Ms. Nina DiRienzo, Head Teacher, Project TRAC students have the opportunity to utilize First Island, a software that was purchased by the board to assist students in their preparation for the SAT and HSPA.
The program is a highlight of the Extended Day Program as it truly places students in the program in a position to be successful. They develop relationships that assist them in them in the difficult transition to high school. These relationships help to build a sense of community within students in the program and allow them someone to turn to if they need assistance whether it be academically or socially.
Ms. Mary Ellen O' Grady, mentor counselor, meets with students in the library to assist them in utilizing the First Island software.
Mr. Tom Fanning, mentor counselor, meets with students in the library to assist them in utilizing the First Island software.
