In accordance with the Jersey City Public Schools 2010-2011 Code of Conduct,
PS #23 strictly adheres to the uniform policy. Uniforms are mandatory. 

Our K-7th grade school uniform consists of a gray collared shirt either short or long sleeved paired with khaki pants or a skirt.

Our 8th grade students wear a black collared shirt either short or long sleeved paired with khaki pants or a skirt.

All shirts must be tucked in, clean, and pressed.

 When getting ready for the school day keep the District Dress Code in mind as well:

  • Uniforms must be worn throughout the entire day.

  • Proper and safe footwear is required at all times.

  • All head coverings, sweat bands, and street related headgear are not permitted unless for religious or medical purposes.

  • Skin fitted clothing is not permitted.

  • Clothing could cause damage to any student or school property is not to be worn.

  • Miniskirts (mid-thigh or higher) are not to be permitted. Undershirts are not permitted to be worn as the outer garment or exposed from under their uniform shirts.

  • Slogans, patches and emblems that are obscene or promote violence in nature are not permitted in school or any school sponsored activity.

  • Pants should not hang so low as to expose underwear. Students who wear their pants so low as to expose their underwear while on school grounds are subject to detention

  • Sneakers or shoes with laces must have laces tied or secured at all times.

  • Clothing or symbols that are gang oriented or promote violence are not permitted at any school or any school-sponsored activity.

  • Metal name belts are not to be worn in school (p. 8 2010-2011 Student Code of Conduct)

Any student who is not in compliance with the School and District Dress Code will be reprimanded in the following way:

First Offense:                   Warning/Call home

Second Offense:             Letter home/After school detention

Third Offense:                  In-School Suspension

Fourth Offense:                Saturday detention

Last Offense:                   Out of school suspension
