JCPS STUDENTS COLLABORATE WITH STUDENTS FROM THE STEVENS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

The primary purpose of Math Circles is to expose students to mathematical practices that are interesting, engaging, and rigorous. Students explore mathematics in new ways, gain a deeper understanding, and foster a love for the subject. Math Circles encourage students to collaborate with their peers and think critically.

November 16, 2020, was the first day of the Math Circles initiative, where college students from Stevens collaborated with 4th and 5th graders from each school. It was an incredible educational experience, and students were engaged as they took part in problem-solving and modeling through various mathematical examples. The students gave feedback on whether they found the particular strategy useful and gave their suggestions about other strategies that could be used. Throughout the six week program, these future mathematical leaders will continue to grow and foster their love for mathematics while learning how to work together to solve problems.
