The Office of the General Counsel
The Office of the General Counsel is located in the Legal Department of The Jersey City Public Schools. Under the auspices of the Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Franklin Walker, it is charged with providing legal advice and guidance to the Superintendent, his Senior Leadership Team, his cabinet, administration, and other staff members on an array of legal issues involving the JCPS, it's policies and programs, students and employees.
The Office of the General Counsel’s various duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Providing legal advice to the Superintendent of Schools, his cabinet members, SLT members, the administration, and other JCPS staff members.
- Monitoring and supervising all legal matters assigned to outside law firms.
- Representing the JCPS in various legal matters including litigation matters arising under the School Laws, Special Education Laws & Public Employment Laws.
