We are committed to both equity and excellence. Jersey City Public Schools provides ALL students access to high-quality, engaging mathematics instruction. Our students deserve the best education possible in order to evolve into productive global citizens.
K-5 Curriculum

The mathematics curricula for grades K-5 is aligned with the 2023 New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS), focusing on building a solid foundation in essential mathematical concepts. Students will develop a strong understanding of number sense, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and measurement, while also exploring basic geometry and early algebraic thinking. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on learning, problem-solving, and the use of mathematical reasoning in everyday life. Through engaging activities and the integration of technology, students will enhance their math skills, preparing them for more complex concepts in the later grades. The curriculum fosters a love of mathematics and encourages collaborative learning to support student growth and understanding.
6-8 Curriculum

The mathematics curricula for grades 6-8 is aligned with the 2023 New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS), ensuring a strong foundation in key mathematical concepts. Students will build on their knowledge of number sense, operations, fractions, decimals, and percentages, while also exploring algebraic thinking, geometry, data analysis, and proportional reasoning. The curriculum emphasizes problem-solving, critical thinking, and the application of math to real-life scenarios. For advanced learners, the Accelerated Enrichment Program (AEP) offers an advanced pathway that prepares students for Algebra I in 8th grade. With a focus on fostering mathematical reasoning and communication, the program prepares students for the challenges of high school mathematics while incorporating technology and collaborative learning to enhance student understanding.
High School Curriculum

The mathematics curricula for grades 9-12 is fully aligned with the updated 2023 New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS). It emphasizes critical thinking, problem-solving, and the application of mathematical concepts in real-world situations. Students will engage in a comprehensive study of algebra, geometry, statistics, and precalculus, with a focus on developing a deep understanding of mathematical principles and practices. The curriculum fosters mathematical literacy preparing students for both college and career readiness, and encourages the use of technology and collaborative learning to enhance mathematical skills and proficiency.
