Anti-Bullying Specialists

The Jersey City Board of Education strictly prohibits any acts of bullying, harassment, or intimidation directed at students or staff. The Board recognizes that a safe and respectful school environment is essential for students to learn and achieve academically, and for staff to teach effectively.

Harassment, intimidation, and bullying, like other disruptive or violent behaviors, interfere with a student’s ability to learn and a school’s ability to provide a safe, productive educational environment. Every member of the Jersey City Public Schools community has the right to learn and work in a safe and supportive setting.

Each school has an Anti-Bullying Specialist (ABS) who is responsible for investigating all reported incidents of harassment, intimidation, or bullying.

Such behaviors will not be tolerated, as they can escalate into more serious violence and conflict with the district’s goals of improving academic performance, increasing school attendance, and reducing dropout rates. Students and staff who feel threatened or unsafe cannot fully focus on learning or teaching.

All students and staff are expected to treat one another with respect and civility and to avoid engaging in disruptive or harmful behavior. The district remains committed to preventing and addressing any acts of harassment, intimidation, or bullying.
